24 Fun and Exciting Sims 4 CAS Challenges to Try When You’re Bored

Have you ever booted up Sims 4 and wondered what to do next? You’re not alone.
Many people get a creative block when playing this simulation game. Granted, after hours of playing, everything starts to become repetitive. Plus, you’ll not always be in the mood to get creative or commit to a storyline.
This is where Sims 4 CAS challenges come in handy. They’re quick and easy to complete, giving you a fantastic way to refresh the game. CAS challenges also don’t require as much commitment as other in-game challenges like the viral One Tile Box Challenge.
All you have to do is create a Sim following specific guidelines of the challenge, and you’re done. If you love creating different looks, pushing your styling skills, and testing your imagination, these challenges are perfect for you.
Below, I’ve compiled an extensive list of fun Sims 4 CAS challenges to try when you’re bored. Happy Simming!

Color Spectrum Challenge

We’ll start off the list with something quick and simple: creating a Sim based on a single color, such as pink, red, purple, teal, etc. I’ve gone with pink, as shown in the image above.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a color and make every part of the Sim match that theme: hair, makeup, clothes, even names.
You can do this for every color in the rainbow or assign one color per Sim in a household.
You can also let each Sim’s personality and backstory reflect their color. For example, a red Sim might be fiery and passionate, while a blue Sim might be calm and artistic.
This is a lighter, CAS-only version of the famous Not So Berry Challenge, and it’s very aesthetically satisfying.
Occult Overload Challenge

I know a lot of guys love creating otherworldly characters in CAS, so I had to include it on the list. The goal is to make an over-the-top Sim based on supernatural or occult archetypes. I chose a witch for my Sim as they’re my favorite fantasy character.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a life state, such as a vampire, werewolf, spellcaster, alien, or ghost, and go wild with the design.
Incorporate traits, clothing, and lore to support their supernatural identity.
This is perfect for fantasy fans, and you can turn the Sim into a gameplay legacy starter.
Halloween Costume Sim Challenge

Halloween is my favorite time of the year, and I always look forward to the different costumes people will rock. Luckily, instead of waiting, you can create multiple costumes in-game to reflect your personality and style. I decided to go with the classic Halloween Pumpkin as shown above.
All you have to do is make a Sim inspired by popular Halloween costumes, like Harley Quinn, a cheerleader, or a pirate.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a costume archetype: witch, vampire, clown, pirate, angel, skeleton, or taco.
Style your Sim in that theme with makeup and flair.
Go solo or create a household of different costumes.
This challenge is spooky, seasonal, and usually hilarious. If you’re interested, check out our article on Sims 4 Halloween Costumes. It will give you some ideas on what costumes to create.
Celebrity Sim Challenge

If you stay on top of red carpet looks and celebrity trends, you can try creating a Sim based on a celebrity. All you have to do is take inspiration from a real-life celebrity, like an actor, singer, or model, and recreate them in CAS. I went with Nicki Minaj.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a celebrity, like Nicki Minaj or Lady Gaga.
Try to match facial features as closely as possible (or loosely base the Sim on their style).
Use CC or in-game fashion to mimic their iconic outfits.
To take it further, place them in a Sim world with other celebs and watch the drama unfold.
Trend & Aesthetic Challenge

Fashion trends and aesthetics are so popular on TikTok, and you can recreate them in CAS. Simply design a Sim based on a viral fashion or lifestyle aesthetic, like Barbiecore, Punkrock, Cottagecore, Goth, Bratz, Coquette, etc. I chose the Punk Rock aesthetic as shown in the picture.
Here’s how it works:
Choose one aesthetic and fully commit to it.
Match hair, makeup, outfits, poses, and even aspirations/traits to the aesthetic
This challenge presents a fun way to tap into current internet culture. It also looks great on social media, and you can tag your friends and family. You’ll find more punk rock looks here.
Seasonal Style Challenge

You can also create a Sim that represents one of the four seasons: spring, summer, fall, or winter. For instance, as shown above, I made a Sim to represent winter and the cold season.
Here’s how it works:
Choose your favorite season or weather, such as winter, spring, or summer
Use weather-inspired color palettes, seasonal clothing, and matching traits, e.g., warm clothes for winter and bright colors for summer.
Assign traits related to the season, e.g., gloomy for winter
This challenge has no specific rules as long as you create a Sim that represents the particular Season.
Holiday Spirit Challenge

Alternatively, you can create a Sim based on holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, or Pride. As a lover girl, I went with a Valentine-themed Sim!
Here’s how it works:
Choose one holiday. It can be any of your favorites!
Let the holiday influence everything from the color palette to traits. e.g Valentine goes with red and pink, while Christmas goes with red and green
This challenge is a festive way to incorporate your real-life calendar into Sim creativity. If you’re interested, please check out our article on Sims 4 Valentine Clothes CC to draw inspiration for your outfit.
The Princess Challenge

I’m a Disney adult at heart, and I always dress as some variation of Disney Princess for Halloween. You can do the same in-game with the Royal Makeover. The goal is to create a Sim inspired by a princess who can be real, fictional, or Disney-style. I tried to make Rapunzel.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a famous princess (e.g., Ariel, Jasmine, or Diana) or make your own.
Reflect her personality and origin in the Sim’s traits, outfits, and backstory.
Go literal with gowns and tiaras, or do a modern take (e.g., “streetwear Cinderella”).
This lets you channel your inner fairytale designer while recreating some of your favorite childhood princesses.
Historical Sim Challenge

The Historical Sim Challenge is one of my favorite CAS challenges. It allows you to create Sims based on different time periods, like Victorian or the 1990s. This way, you get lost in that time period!
Here’s how it works:
Choose a historical era – Victorian, Medieval, Ancient Egypt, 1920s, etc.
Research clothing styles, social roles, and names from that time.
Download all the custom content and mods you need to represent the time period.
Create Sims (or families) that fit the period, from how they dress to how they look.
This challenge combines fashion history with Sims design, and it’s ideal for storytellers or machinima creators.
Fashion Era Challenge

You can also create a Sim based on fashion from a specific decade or historical time period. I chose the 2000s Y2K as it reflects my teenage years! Think of low-rise jeans, bright and colorful accessories, and scarves!
Here’s how it works:
Pick an era of fashion: 1920s flapper, 1950s housewife, 1980s rocker, 2000s Y2K queen.
Match the Sim’s fashion, hair, and makeup to the period.
Try doing a household or a “timeline” of Sims from multiple decades.
This challenge blends historical research with fashion play, and you’ll get stylized results. If you’re interested, check out our article on Sims 4 Y2K CC Finds to find hidden gems from this era.
Black & White CAS Challenge

If you want a real challenge that tests you blind, try the Black-and-White Screen. It’s quite extreme, as it tasks you with creating a Sim with your screen set to grayscale. This way, you don’t peek any colors!
Here’s how it works:
Change your monitor or system settings to black and white, or use a grayscale filter.
Create a full Sim (or household) as usual, complete with clothing and accessories.
Turn the color back on and see what wild color combos you’ve unknowingly made.
It’s a test of color theory, and the results are often hilarious. Think orange lips with green eyebrows and neon purple shoes. If you’re an online gamer, you can stream or record your reaction when the colors come back on.
The Opposite Personality Challenge

You’ll get bored quickly if you’re always playing the same characters and storylines. Step outside your comfort zone and make a Sim with appearances and traits you never use. For instance, I always make beautiful female Sims with expensive taste in fashion and style. As a change, I made a male adult Sim as shown in the picture.
Here’s how it works:
Think about your “default” Sim type (e.g., a slim, skinny, successful, or good-looking Sim).
Choose appearances and traits that are the total opposite. If you always make nice Sims, make one who’s hot-headed and evil.
Dress and style them to match their new attitude.
Take it a notch further by writing a mini backstory explaining why they act this way – maybe they were raised in a harsh environment or are trying to rebel. Eventually, it can lead to new gameplay ideas.
Zodiac Sign Challenge

If you’re into zodiac signs and astrology, you must complete this challenge. It tasks you with creating a Sim for each of the 12 zodiac signs, using personality and style cues from astrology.
Here’s how it works:
Each Sim reflects the personality traits of their sign. For example:
Aries: bold, athletic, confident
Cancer: nurturing, homebody, emotional
Libra: romantic, stylish, people pleaser
Match outfits and aesthetics to each sign’s vibe or elemental group (fire, water, air, earth).
Astrology fans will love aligning traits with visuals, and it’s a great way to practice style variation.
The Alphabet CAS Challenge

Another interesting and fun CAS challenge is the Alphabet Challenge, where you create a Sim for each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z. For instance, I created a Sim named Summer, who, as her name suggests, loves warm weather, tropical getaways, and the beach.
Here’s how it works:
Each Sim’s name must begin with a different letter, such as A for Adam and B for Beatrice.
Try to match their personality traits, aspirations, or fashion style to their letter (e.g., “Liam” might be Lazy and Loves Outdoors, while “Nina” could be Neat and Noncommittal).
You can style the Sim however you like based on how you interpret their name, so there’s freedom of expression.
I love this challenge because it’s long-haul and perfect for casual play. Additionally, it helps you explore various looks and personalities you may never have tried before.
Story-Based Sim Creation

The story-based Sim creation challenges you to think outside the box. I know this may not be everyone’s taste, so to make things easier, use ChatGPT to generate a few ideas. The goal is to create Sims based on mini story prompts to fuel your storytelling. For example, I designed a cyborg Sim born in the year 2056.
Here’s how it works:
Come up with (or roll a dice to pick) a quick backstory. Here are a few ideas:
An alien disguised as a human student
A runaway royal living under a fake name
A former villain trying to turn their life around
A teen runaway who lives on the street
Create the Sim to match their story. Think about their clothes, scars, tattoos, or facial expressions. For example, a homeless teen should wear dirty and filthy clothing and have unkempt hair.
It’s an excellent way to brainstorm new gameplay ideas or legacy families. And, the Sims created can become the foundation of full playthroughs as long as you save the household to your save file.
Random Genetics Challenge

The Random Genetics challenge is designed for those who love family-filled gameplay. The goal of the challenge is to let the genetics system decide your Sim’s features, and you must embrace the results. It’s inspired by the popular Legacy Sim Challenge.
Here’s how it works:
Create two Sims with drastically different appearances.
Use the “Play with Genetics” tool to generate a child.
Without changing any of the child’s inherited facial features or body shape, give them a full makeover – hair, skin details, makeup, clothing, etc.
You can use a randomizer mod to assign traits and style preferences.
You’ll often get bizarre or unexpected results, which pushes you to work with unconventional looks. However, this challenge is more extensive than the others mentioned in this post.
Animal-Inspired Sim Challenge

If you’re an animal lover or adore household pets, you can create a Sim based on them. The Sim must be human but with specific looks and traits associated with the chosen animal.
Here’s how it works:
Pick any animal – cat, fox, owl, tiger, even mythical ones like unicorns.
Use fashion, makeup, traits, and even body paint or face markings to hint at the animal’s look and personality.
This will intrigue individuals who are into whimsical or even haunting Sims.
Video Game-Based Challenge

You can also create a Sim based on your favorite character from a video game, like Fortnite, Zelda, or Assassin’s Creed. Most people create Fortnite skins or specific in-game characters like Evelyn Parker from Cyberpunk 2077.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a character, franchise, or overall aesthetic from a game.
Recreate their look as closely as possible using in-game items or CC. Or, you can do your own inspired spin as long as you stay true to the overall character aesthetic.
This challenge combines fandom with fashion and might spark ideas for storytelling in a gameplay save.
Cinematic Sim Challenge

If you love watching films and movies, you may want to recreate your favorite characters in CAS. I’m a fan of Mad Max: Fury Road, so I decided to create the lead female character, Furiosa, as shown in the picture.
Here’s how it works:
Pick a character (or invent one) based on a movie universe.
Use clothing, accessories, and personality traits to reflect that film’s vibe.
If you have time, you can recreate an entire cast or household from the movie. A good example is all the characters from Friends. Put them in a house and see what fun storylines you come up with.
Love It / Hate It Challenge

This challenge mixes your most and least favorite CAS items to see what you come up with. This can be anything from hair to clothing. For example, I chose this ugly hairstyle in vibrant red and tried to match it to my favorite makeup look.
Here’s how it works:
Pick one CAS item you adore and one you don’t.
The challenge is to make the hated item work with the adored piece in a cohesive and stylish look.
This will push you to be resourceful and might even change how you feel about specific assets.
Inspired by Real Life Challenge

Instead of creating Sim characters based on movies, celebrities, or actors, design one inspired by the people around you daily. This can be a family member, roommate, partner, or yourself. I created a cheesy, fun, and quirky version of my younger sister.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a person in your life.
Recreate their appearance, traits, outfits, and quirks in the game.
You can be literal or exaggerate traits for fun (e.g., make your sibling a neat freak or romantic).
Afterwards, you can show the person what you’ve created to see their reaction. It’s personal, funny, and great for storytelling.
Country-Inspired Sim Challenge

You can create a Sim inspired by a specific country, using fashion, culture, and personality traits that reflect that country.
Here’s how it works:
Pick any country you’re passionate about or one you’ve always wanted to visit.
Use clothing, hair, accessories, and even traits that embody the vibe and culture of that country. For instance, Japanese wear Kimonos while most muslim countries wear hijabs
.
This challenge allows you to explore different cultures through fashion and learn about the country while having fun with Sims!
Race-Inspired Sim Challenge

Lastly, you can create a Sim based on your chosen race or ethnicity, embracing both physical features and cultural elements. As a black girl, I always go for black or urban Sims, like the one pictured above.
Here’s how it works:
Choose any race or ethnicity and focus on creating a Sim that celebrates its features and cultural influences.
Incorporate skin tones, facial features, clothing, and accessories that reflect that culture or identity.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore and honor diverse cultures and identities through the game.
Conclusion
That’s it, Simmers! If you’ve made it to the end of the list, leave a dart emoji below🎯. I had a lot of fun making this Sims 4 CAS challenges list, and I hope you use it to create thousands of styles and looks.
