From The Sims 1 to The Sims 3, pets have always been a hit with players.

I mean, The Sims 2 Pets was ICONIC. And at least for me, exudes major nostalgia.

Then when The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs was released, there were many mixed opinions. (And then there was the disastrous release of My First Pet Stuff…)

At times, pets in the Sims 4 can be boring and annoying. There’s also the issue that pets aren’t playable (luckily pet mod #1 fixes that!)

But today, we’re fixing that with a list of essential pets mods for sims 4 to make our pets gameplay WAY better!

This post is all about the best sims 4 pet mods.

1. Sims 4 Playable Pets Mod by AOM Studio

I have already done an entire overview of the playable pets mod for sims 4, but I knew that it had to be #1 on this list as one of the absolute best mods for pets!

To put it simply, when you have this mod in your game, your pets are selectable and you can view all the same panels that you can for human sims like their friendships, traits, skills, needs, etc.

My favorite aspect is being able to see my pet’s needs panel.

This allows me to see when my pet’s affection is getting low, and I can then hopefully keep them from running away!

2. Reveal Pet Quirks Mod for Sims 4 by Spazmunki13

If you’ve ever been curious about your pet’s exact personality quirks, then this is the pet mod you need for sims 4!

If you have the playable pets mod downloaded, then with this mod, you’ll be able to click on your pet’s personality panel and see their quirks listed under traits.

As you can see from the photo, it will show you everything from being obsessed with the TV to being Afraid of the Dishwasher.

3. Pet Themed Holiday Traditions by icemunmun

Holiday traditions are something that the Sims team totally dropped the ball on.

It’s as if they’ve completely forgotten about the feature altogether, especially when it comes to pets.

So, if you’d love to have holidays centered around pets or add pet traditions to your already existing holidays then you definitely need this mod.

With this mod, you could create a custom adopt-a-pet holiday to help get all the needy pets out of the shelters!

4. Sims 4 Active Doggy Daycare Career by ItsKatato

I’ve said it before on this blog, but ItsKatato’s career mods are truly some of the best out there right now. The effort and depth of their mods are nearly unmatched!

The doggy daycare career mod is actually a combination between a business and a career. Your sim will purchase a doggy daycare lot (much like they would purchase a vet clinic) and run their own Planet Canine.

Your sim will want to focus on building up their pet training skill, so they’re able to charge top dollar for their dog sitting.

With this business, you’re able to hire employees to help you out, launch ads to get more customers, and interact with the adorable puppies.

Overall, it’s just another fun way to add more pets gameplay to the sims 4!

5. Off Grid Washtub for Pets Mod by K9DB

This is not a major game-changing mod but is still essential if you like playing off-grid or are playing the rags to riches challenge.

The mod gives you the ability to bathe your pets (and toddlers!) in an off-grid washtub!

It can function on or off the grid and can be upgraded for self-cleaning and clean coat.

Just an overall incredible piece of pet cc to have in your game!

6. Sims 4 Pet Jobs Mod by ShuSanR

This pet mod is inspired by the pet jobs that came with The Sims 2 Pets.

It comes with 3 pet jobs that you can send your pets to make some money and earn their keep! Each pet job has its own specific hours and pay.

In addition, you’ll get an option to send your pet to ‘Healthy Care.’ If your pet is sick, dirty, or tired, they will come back all pampered and healthy!

And lastly, for dogs only, you can send them to a ‘Pet Training Center‘ where they will learn commands over the course of several classes.

Of course, these are all rabbit holes, but it’s still super fun and adds more gameplay to your pets!

*I’ve seen some players reporting that this mod doesn’t work; however, I’ve found that it does with a couple of notes:

• If you have the playable pets mod installed, don’t have your pet as the selectable sim. Have one of the human sims as selectable and then click on your pet to get to the ‘Pet Assignments‘ interaction.
• If have your pet as the selectable sim (with playable pets), it won’t show in the pet’s queue that they’re going to these activties. They will just starting walking and go, since this mod was made without the use of playable pets.

7. Sims 4 Paws & Claws Mod by ChippedSim

This is a HUGE sims 4 pet mod with four different modules that add a lot to pet gameplay!

• The first module adds animal preferences to your sims. So your sims can now express their preference towards cows and their dislike towards fish!
• The second module adds pet rabbits to the sims 4. You will need Cottage Living for this module to work.
• The third module adds an entire animal shelter system. This is my personal favorite part of the mod!
• The fourth module adds animal related gameplay for child sims. For right now it only allows kids to walk dogs (which will conflict with this mod) but there is more content planned for release.

You’re able to pick and choose the modules you want to have in your game after downloading the core mod.

8. Cats & Dogs CC Trait Pack for Sims by Ilkavelle

To add more realism to the game, you’ll want these custom traits for sims all about pets.

But what makes these pet traits special is that they’re all “negative” traits. Not everyone is a cat lover, ya know?

With this cc trait download, you’ll receive the following traits:

• Afraid of Cats trait
• Afraid of Animals trait
• Allgeric to Cats trait
• Allergic to Dogs trait
• Afraid of Dogs trait
• Allergic to Fur trait
• Hates Cats trait
• Hates Animals trait
• Hates Dogs trait

(There are actually nine custom traits included, but for some reason, allergic to dogs didn’t make it into the photo. Oops!)

A fun extra feature of this mod is the ability for your sims to buy allergy pills on the computer if they’re allergic to pets to alleviate any of their symptoms!

9. Hire a Dog Walker Sims 4 Mod by LittleMsSam

Having a dog walker is a pretty common thing in the real world, but it’s not a feature that came with The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs.

Whether your sim works all day or just lacks the energy, with this mod your sim can hire a dog walker to do all that walking for them.

10. Pet Immortality Mod for Sims 4 by CrucibleGaming

Feel like there’s never enough time with your pets?

If you want your pets to live forever, then you need this custom immortality trait mod for your cast & dogs.

All you need to do is download the mod, add the immortal trait to your pet, and it will keep your pet from ever dying!

11. Sims 4 Boarding Kennels Career Mod by GamerCharzard

I’ve mentioned this custom career previously in my sims 4 career mods post, so you may already know of it.

But it was just SO fitting for this post that I had to share it with you again.

This is the perfect job for a dog lover sim. They get to spend every day with the dogs, working at the Brindleton Boarding Kennels, and increasing their dog training skills!

12. Kids Can Walk The Dog Sims 4 Mod by LittleMsSam

First of all, can we acknowledge how weird it is that this wasn’t already included in The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs? It truly is a young adult simulator…

Luckily, LittleMsSam has graciously given us a mod to allow kids to walk the dog.

And not only that, but it builds up their responsibility. So cute!

13. Sims 4 Small Pets Mod by TheKalino

Can’t get enough of small pets? This mod adds in TEN new small pets with recolors.

You’ll also get recolors of the small animal cage in more natural colors.

I read a great overview of this mod by the creator themselves on Sims-Online, so be sure to check that out to see more photos and details!

Unfortunately, this mod does require the My First Pet Stuff pack to work.

14. Sims 4 Animal Behaviorist Aspiration Mod by IlkaVelle

This is a custom aspiration that I’ve talked about before. It’s a GREAT way to get more gameplay of The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs.

It’s an aspiration that will likely most of your sim’s life (on regular lifespan) because you’ll need to train lots of pets and even reach level 5 of the veterinarian skill.

Not a bad way to spend your life though, especially for an animal lover!

15. Sims 4 Dog Groomer Career Mod by HexeSims

Here’s another pet-related job for your dog lover sims!

This time it’s a custom dog groomer career where your sim will work their way up from the receptionist to owning a grooming business of their very own.

16. Sims 4 Train Your Puppies Mod by LittleMsSam

Are you tired of waiting until your puppies have grown up to start their training?

Now you don’t have to with this pet mod!

You can start teaching your puppies how to sit, lie down, heel, and speak at a young age, so they’re way ahead of their dog peers by the time they age up.

17. Animal Shop Mod for Cottage Living by Zafire

This pet shop mod is a great addition to The Sims 4 Cottage Living if you’re sick of “chasing NPC around the forest just to buy some clothing for your dear Llama” as the creator says.

Now your sims will have an animal shop app on their phones where they can purchase items related to all animals in-game.

So if you need something specific for your dog, chicken, cat, or llama, it’s the place to shop!

It’s all instant and ends up directly in your sim’s inventory.

18. Sims 4 Cat Whisperer Career by SimplyAnjuta

Finally, a job mod for our cat lovers!

The custom cat whisperer career is a unique mod where your sims can end up being a Cat Rights Activist or a Cat Film Maker after reaching level 5 and becoming a true Cat Whisperer.

The creator has made beautiful graphics going into specific detail about each branch of the career, so be sure to check those out on the download page.

19. Functional Pet Water Bowls for Sims 4 by LittleMsSam

Although this is a small mod, I actually LOVE IT and find it so necessary!

It’s a water bowl mod that puts custom pet water bowls into the sims 4, which your sims can then fill up and your pets can drink from.

Super simple, but gives you that in-depth, realistic gameplay we all really want in the sims 4.

20. Sims 4 Breeding Mod by PolarBearSims

If you want more control over pet breeding in the sims 4, then this is a must-have mod!

You can now encourage pets outside of your household to breed with other pets.

One of the major benefits of this mod is to be able to increase the number of pets that are in your sim’s neighborhoods.

21. Fear Training for Pets by LittleMsSam

It can be pretty annoying when your pet is constantly afraid of everything around them.

With this sims 4 pet mod, you can train your pets to no longer be afraid.

This is all based on levels and each level of training will combat more and more fears.

For example, at level 1, the fear of microwave, cooking, and brewer will all be disabled.

And it progresses from there until there’s nothing left to be afraid of.

22. Sims 4 Fish Mod by KawaiiStacie

This fish mod adds new interactions to the fishbowl and aquariums making them WAY more fun.

Doing these interactions increase your sim’s fun and social needs, plus they’ll build a relationship with the fish.

Your sims can also get moodlets and buffs from interacting with their fish friends!

One of the coolest features of this mod (in my opinion) is the new fish breeding system.

It’s not very complex, but your fish do have a chance to spawn fish eggs which is pretty awesome!

23. Foster Pets Mod for Sims 4 by LittleMsSam

This is another mod that I highly recommend having for the sims 4 for more fun with storytelling.

With the Foster Family mod, your sims can not only sign up to be the foster parents of children but they can also foster pets!

Once the pets have been placed with your family, sims will take care of the pets like they would their own.

They’ll receive weekly payments for care of the animals and even have the option of adopting them if they want to be their forever family. 🥰

24. Sims 4 Feedable Frogs Mod by IlexSims

If you’ve ever wanted the frogs in the sims 4 to be more like actual pets, then you need this mod.

This is an override that will allow your sims to name, feed, and talk to their frogs.

25. Sims 4 Animal Rescue Mod by PurpleThistles

This mod features a new animal rescue career and other small additions to pets in the sims 4!

When it’s downloaded, your sims can now earn money for training pets, get cheaper vet bills, and free pet food for being an animal rescuer.

26. Sims 4 Bird Mod by BakieGaming

I’ve seen that some Simmers have been looking for a pet bird mod, and this is the closest I’ve come to finding that! (If you do happen to know of one, let me know!)

This is a mod that allows you to place animated birds in the world. They act more like decoration but look adorable hanging around your sim’s lot.

And add that touch of realism we all love!

I highly recommend watching the video above from the creator to better understand how the mod works.

27. Sentiments For Pets Mod by Zero’s Sims 4 Mods

Pets weren’t included in the sentiments update, but this mod fixes that.

Now your pets can have sentiments with sims and sims can have sentiments with pets.

I love how your pet’s traits will affect the sentiments they get.

And they’re more likely to get different sentiments based on if they’re a cat or dog. Super cool!

If you want to be able to see the sentiments that your pets have, then I recommend having the playable pets mod downloaded as well!

I’m seriously SO excited about all of these pet mods and pet cc! Sims 4 gameplay mods are one of my favorite things to write about and share with you.

They truly make my animal gameplay better and I hope they’ll do the same for you too.
